Plain Game Data Sources & Limitations
Understand the collections, reference links, frozen values and measurement scopes used in Plain Game.
Last updated: 2026-10-23
Plain Game uses a finite bank of reference values to score estimates. The current bank, airmail-1, contains 20 name-answer collections. Figures are frozen rather than fetched live during play. A reference link is a starting point for checking a value, not a certification that every entry has been independently verified.
Find the scope before comparing values
Open Field guide in the game to explore the collections, then choose a collection. Each collection gives its unit and measurement scope. These distinctions can change the answer: total area includes more than land area, a theatrical film is not an extended cut, and a planet's equatorial diameter is not its mean diameter.
Collection references
The following links are the reference destinations recorded in the current game bank, checked against the local data on October 23, 2026. Some lead to a general collection or organization rather than an individual measurement. Their inclusion does not establish an exhaustive external review or guarantee that the destination is always available.
| Collection and reference | Measurement scope |
|---|---|
| High places | Elevation above sea level · rounded metres |
| Room to roam | Total surface area · frozen rounded figures; not land area alone |
| Island hopping | Individual islands, not whole island countries · approximate km² |
| Look up | Rounded height · to tip for towers, current height for monuments |
| Planet parade | Eight planets · equatorial diameter, rounded kilometres |
| A year elsewhere | Orbital period in Earth days · approximate |
| Moon collection | Mean diameter · approximate kilometres |
| Atomic intuition | Atomic number = protons in the nucleus |
| Movie night | Original theatrical cut · minutes, not extended editions |
| Save-point memories | Earliest full commercial release · excludes early access and remakes |
| String theory | Typical standard configuration · variants exist |
| Finish lines | Standard named distances · metres |
| Shape of things | Simple named polygons |
| Paper trail | ISO 216 · long edge in millimetres |
| In a moment | Fixed durations · seconds; a year here means 365 days |
| Digital luggage | Decimal MB / GB versus binary MiB / GiB |
| Between the covers | First publication of the original work · not a later translation |
| The long road | Total area, land plus water · rounded square kilometres |
| Far from home | Orbital semi-major axis · millions of kilometres |
| Small things, big world | Exact conventional conversions · metres |
What these references can and cannot establish
The bank has not received an exhaustive independent factual audit. Geographic values may use different boundaries, measurement dates or rounding. Mountain elevations can change; building heights may include a tip or antenna. Release and publication years can depend on edition and region. Instrument configurations can vary.
A value in a reveal means that it is the value used by this game's current data version. It does not establish the latest measurement or override the original source. For research or a consequential decision, consult a directly relevant source and its date and definition.
Daily routes and version changes
Daily questions are generated deterministically from a date and the game-data version. They are not manually written afresh each day. Updating the bank or generation rules can change routes; comparisons are meaningful when players use the same version. Recent dates offered in Past flights are practice, not a permanent historical record of every earlier release.
Report a suspected mistake
Email support@plaingame.fun, operated by chaozicoder. Include the collection, answer name, value and unit shown, the question date if relevant, and a link explaining the proposed correction. A screenshot of the reveal can help; remove unrelated personal information.
Corrections require checking the measurement definition as well as the number. No response time or correction date is promised. Confirmed changes should be explained in the game's update notes when they affect how players interpret answers.
Learn from the reveal
Read the unit, compare your guess with the displayed value, then use the reference to explore the subject. Try Discovery mode if you want time to think. The scoring guide explains how numerical distance becomes points.
